What's happening
A T-Mobile device (particularly an iPhone) fails to connect to a Passpoint network, even though the network itself is working correctly for other devices and carriers.
Root cause
This can be caused by an iPhone setting called "Ask to Join Networks" (found under Settings > Wi-Fi). When this is set to "Ask," it can interfere with Passpoint's automatic connection behavior — instead of joining automatically as designed, the device may wait for user input or fail to complete the connection process.
Troubleshooting steps
- On the affected iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Tap Ask to Join Networks.
- Change the setting from "Ask" to "Notify".
- Restart Wi-Fi (toggle it off and on) or restart the device.
-
Confirm the device now connects to the Passpoint network automatically.
If the issue continues
If changing this setting doesn't resolve the issue, contact support and let us know:
- The device model and carrier
- What you see when attempting to connect (e.g. no networks shown, connection attempt fails, etc.)
- Confirmation that you've already checked the "Ask to Join Networks" setting
Our team can help investigate further, including checking whether the issue is isolated to this device or reflects a broader network or carrier-side issue.
